Did Your MEPs Stand Up to #SaveYourInternet?

Check their Vote on the EU Copyright Directive

The directory below lists the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) of your country and how they voted during the crucial European Parliament Plenary session vote on the new EU Copyright Directive on 26 March, 2019. Jump to the results below.

Please note that several MEPs ended-up ‘correcting’ their vote afterwards. MEPs can ‘correct’ their vote in the official records up to 2-weeks after the vote, in order to indicate that they had the intention of voting differently than they did. These votes are marked as ‘CORRECTED’ in the directory below. These corrections do not change the actual vote results.

A short explainer of how MEPs’ voting behaviour is categorised:

Vote on Possibility to Change the Final Text: This column reflects how MEPs voted on the possibility to change the final text (= opening the vote on Amendments). If enough MEPs would have voted FOR, then they would have had the possibility to vote on Amendments to remove (= delete) both upload filters (Article 17, ex Art. 13) and the link tax (Article 15, ex Art. 11) from the final text of the new EU Copyright Directive, before voting on the (updated) text itself. MEPs’ voting behaviour is displayed as follows:

  • FOR [= MEPs who voted ‘FOR’ the possibility to change the final text, allowing MEPs to vote on Amendments to remove (= delete) Articles 15 & 17 (ex Art. 11 & 13)]
  • FOR – CORRECTED [= MEPs who intended to vote ‘FOR’ – see above – but voted differently on 26 March]
  • AGAINST [= MEPs who voted ‘AGAINST’ the possibility to change the final text, allowing MEPs to vote on Amendments to remove (= delete) Articles 15 & 17 (ex Art. 11 & 13)]
  • AGAINST – CORRECTED [= MEPs who intended to vote ‘AGAINST’ – see above – but voted differently on 26 March]
  • ABSTAINED [= MEPs who decided to not vote in favour or against the possibility to change the final text]
  • ABSTAINED – CORRECTED [= MEPs who intended to ‘ABSTAIN’ from voting – see above – but voted differently on 26 March]
  • NOT PRESENT [= MEPs who were not present for this vote]

Final Vote on Copyright Directive: This column reflects how MEPs voted on the final text of the new EU Copyright Directive. The final text included both upload filters (Article 17, ex Art 13) and the link tax (Article 15, ex Art. 11), since the previous vote dismissed the possibility of considering amendments that proposed the deletion of these two toxic articles. The version voted on was the provisional trilogue agreement text on which the European Parliament and Council [aka EU Member States] reached an agreement on 13 February. MEPs’ voting behaviour is displayed as follows:

  • FOR [= MEPs who voted ‘FOR’ the final text of the Copyright Directive, including Articles 15 & 17 (ex Art. 11 & 13)]
  • FOR – CORRECTED [= MEPs who intended to vote ‘FOR’ – see above – but voted differently on 26 March]
  • AGAINST [= MEPs who voted ‘AGAINST’ the final text of the Copyright Directive, including Articles 15 & 17 (ex Art. 11 & 13)]
  • AGAINST – CORRECTED [= MEPs who intended to vote ‘AGAINST’ – see above – but voted differently on 26 March]
  • ABSTAINED [= MEPs who decided to not vote in favour or against the Copyright Directive]
  • ABSTAINED – CORRECTED [= MEPs who intended to ‘ABSTAIN’ from voting – see above – but voted differently on 26 March]
  • NOT PRESENT [= MEPs who were not present for this vote]

Over 130 MEPs from across the EU pledged in advance to vote in favour of deleting Article 17 (ex Art. 13) and against the final text of the new EU Copyright Directive if Article 17 (ex Art. 13) would remain in it. Check who pledged and how they voted here:
